Terms of service

Last updated September 24, 2026

Thank you for using Pickled Lore. These terms of service (“Terms”) are the rules for using it.

When we say “we”, “our” or “us”, we mean the people who run Pickled Lore. When we say “Service”, we mean the Pickled Lore app at app.pickledlore.com and this website. When we say “you” or “your”, we mean anyone who uses the Service.

We may update these Terms in the future. Whenever we make a significant change, we will update the date at the top of this page. When you use the Service, now or in the future, you are agreeing to the latest Terms. There may be times when we do not exercise or enforce a right or provision of the Terms; that does not mean we are waiving it. These Terms do contain a limitation of our liability.

If you violate any of the Terms, we may end your access to the Service.

Account terms

  1. The Service is invite-only. You may use it only if you have been invited to a household.
  2. You sign in with your email address. You are responsible for keeping access to that email address, and the devices you sign in on, secure. We cannot and will not be liable for any loss or damage caused by your failure to do so.
  3. You are responsible for all content posted to, and activity that occurs under, your account. A household owner is also responsible for the members they add.
  4. You must be a human. Accounts registered by bots or other automated methods are not permitted.

Use restrictions

You may not use the Service to:

Cost

The Service is free. We do not ask for payment details, there are no paid plans, and we do not sell your data. Each household has a monthly limit on how many recipes it can add.

Cancellation and termination

  1. If you want to stop using the Service, email us at hello@pickledlore.com. A household owner can also remove members from the household. The Service does not yet have self-serve account deletion or data export; our Privacy policy explains what we can do today.
  2. We have the right to suspend or end your access to the Service, and to refuse any current or future use of it, for any reason at any time. Suspension means you and the other members of your household will not be able to access your household or its content.
  3. Verbal, physical, written or other abuse (including threats of abuse or retribution) of anyone who runs the Service will result in immediate termination of access.

Changes to the Service

We reserve the right at any time to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, any part of the Service, with or without notice. If we plan to shut the Service down, we will try to give households reasonable notice.

Uptime, security and privacy

  1. Your use of the Service is at your sole risk. We provide the Service on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not offer a service-level agreement.
  2. We reserve the right to limit or temporarily disable your access if your usage harms the Service for other people.
  3. We take measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit and regular backups, but no service is perfectly secure.
  4. When you use the Service, you trust us with your data. You agree that we may process it as described in our Privacy policy, and for no other purpose. That includes sending the recipes you add to an AI model provider to read them.
  5. We use third-party vendors and hosting partners to provide the hardware, software, networking, storage and related technology needed to run the Service. Our Privacy policy describes them.

Copyright and content ownership

  1. All content posted on the Service must comply with copyright law. Recipes you add from other websites are for your household’s personal use. You are responsible for having the right to add what you add.
  2. You give us a limited license to use the content posted by you and your household in order to provide the Service to you. We claim no ownership rights over that content. All materials you submit to the Service remain yours.
  3. We do not pre-screen content, but we reserve the right (but not the obligation) to refuse or remove any content on the Service.
  4. We or our licensors own all right, title and interest in and to the Service, including all intellectual property rights in it, and you obtain no ownership rights in the Service by using it. The Pickled Lore name and jar mark may not be used without our permission.
  5. You agree not to reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any portion of the Service, use of the Service, or access to the Service without our express written permission.

Features and bugs

We design the Service with care, but no service pleases everybody. We make no guarantees that the Service will meet your specific requirements or expectations.

As with any software, the Service has bugs. The recipes the AI model extracts can contain mistakes, so check ingredients, quantities, temperatures and allergens against the original before relying on them. We don’t guarantee a completely error-free Service.

Liability

You expressly understand and agree that we shall not be liable, in law or in equity, to you or to any third party for any direct, indirect, incidental, lost profits, special, consequential, punitive or exemplary damages, including, but not limited to, damages for loss of profits, goodwill, use, data or other intangible losses (even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages), resulting from: (i) the use or the inability to use the Service; (ii) the cost of procurement of substitute goods and services resulting from any goods, data, information or services purchased or obtained or messages received or transactions entered into through or from the Service; (iii) unauthorized access to or alteration of your transmissions or data; (iv) statements or conduct of any third party on the Service; (v) or any other matter relating to these Terms or the Service, whether as a breach of contract, tort (including negligence whether active or passive), or any other theory of liability.

If you have a question about any of these Terms, please email us at hello@pickledlore.com.
