Privacy policy

The privacy of your data (and it is your data, not ours) is a big deal to us. This policy explains what personal information Pickled Lore collects, why, who it is shared with, and how long we keep it. We never sell your data.
It applies to the Pickled Lore app at app.pickledlore.com and this website.
What we collect and why
- Account information. Pickled Lore is invite-only. For each member who signs in we keep their email address and their role in the household. Members can add a display name. A household can also list members who don’t sign in by name only. We use this to let you sign in and to show who is in your household.
- Sign-in. There are no passwords. If you sign in with a Google account, we receive your verified email address and keep only that.
- What you add. Recipes, and the links, text and photos you use to add them. We keep these so you and your household can use them.
- Technical information. Like most websites, our servers log requests, including IP addresses and browser details, for security and to fix problems. The app stores what it needs to keep you signed in and remember your preferences on your own device.
Adding recipes with AI
When you add a recipe, the link’s page content, the text you paste or the photo you upload is sent to a third-party AI service, which turns it into a structured recipe. Please don’t add anything you wouldn’t want processed that way.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only with the service providers that help us run Pickled Lore (hosting, databases, backups, sign-in, email and AI processing), and only so they can provide that service to us. We will also disclose information if the law requires it. If Pickled Lore ever changes hands, we will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as your household uses Pickled Lore. Deleted recipes are hidden from the app but kept in your household’s history. Backups are kept for a limited period and then expire, except that backup copies of photos have no set expiry. Server logs are kept for a limited period. We may also keep information where we need it to meet legal obligations or resolve disputes.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Depending on where you live, the law may give you further rights, including the right to complain to a data protection authority.
Pickled Lore does not yet offer account deletion or data export. A household owner can remove a member, and we can archive a household on request. Email hello@pickledlore.com and we will tell you what we can do.
Where your data is stored
Your information is stored in the United States. If you use Pickled Lore from elsewhere, it will be transferred there.
